Within the framework of the Confluence Model, this research investigated the relationship between pornography use and sexual aggression in men exhibiting high, but not low, predisposing risk factors like hostile masculinity (HM) and impersonal sexuality (IS). Three online surveys, comprising an American Mechanical Turk sample (N1 = 1528, Mage = 2246 years), a national sample of Canadian students (N2 = 1049, Mage = 2089 years), and a national sample of Canadian non-students (N3 = 905, Mage = 2166 years), were employed to examine the proposed hypothesis. As anticipated, the interplay of HM and IS reliably predicted self-reported instances of sexual aggression across different samples. The impact of pornography use, when considered in interaction with other elements, was more complex. The Confluence Model hypothesis was validated when pornography use was operationalized as the use of nine distinct magazines, but this validation failed when pornography use was defined using a modern, encompassing approach that factored in internet materials. The Confluence Model struggles to explain the contrasting results, emphasizing how different measures of pornography use impact survey outcomes.
The formation of a graphene foam, termed laser-induced graphene (LIG), through the selective irradiation of polymer films with inexpensive and widely available CO2 lasers, has generated significant research interest. Motivating its widespread application in electrochemical energy storage devices, such as batteries and supercapacitors, is the high conductivity and porosity of LIG, combined with the approach's simplicity and speed. However, virtually all high-performance supercapacitors based on LIG technology reported thus far are synthesized from expensive, petroleum-derived polyimide materials (like Kapton and PI). The formation of high-performance LIGs is facilitated by the incorporation of microparticles of inexpensive, non-toxic, and readily available sodium salts, such as NaCl and Na2SO4, into poly(furfuryl alcohol) (PFA) resins, as demonstrated herein. Populations throughout the world are impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. This impact is demonstrably different for socioeconomic groups falling into low- and high-socioeconomic status (SES) categories. A qualitative study in the Netherlands, adopting a salutogenic perspective, examined experiences with stressors and coping strategies during the pandemic amongst individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds. The study sought to provide insights into strategies for improving the health and well-being of these groups. Investigating the experiences of Dutch-speaking respondents (aged 25-55) from low- (N=37) and high-socioeconomic status (N=38) groups, ten focus groups and twenty interviews explored the available resources and the stressors they encountered. From individual to community to national levels, we investigated the findings. Coping patterns are determined by governmental interventions and personal engagement with such measures, demonstrating impacts on professional and recreational spheres, alongside negative psychological effects and resourcefulness, with associated social impacts, including unity. Social unity and its contrary, societal fracture, including the escalation of polarization. The social effects of COVID-19 measures were more pronounced in neighborhoods where respondents had lower socioeconomic standing, leading to more reported problems than in those with higher socioeconomic status. The effect of home confinement on family life was particularly pronounced in low-SES communities, while high-SES groups cited the effects on their professional careers. By fostering intersectoral partnerships, 'synergistic' solutions to complex public health challenges can be created, a feat impossible for any single organization to accomplish. Synergy is attainable only through partners' shared commitment to equitable co-construction and decision-making. Despite the theoretical benefits of synergy, numerous partnerships fail to translate the concept into tangible outcomes. This study, which builds on the Bergen Model of Collaborative Functioning, provides a framework for understanding how to maximize partnership synergy through a focus on interactions between inputs to the shared mission and partner resources. Introducing the concept of 'dependency structure' allows us to focus on how input interactions influence the power balance, thereby affecting the potential for shared decision-making and co-creation. Analysis of qualitative data from 27 interviews, 10 focus groups, partnership documents, and meeting observations within 10 intersectoral health promotion partnerships in Denmark yielded these findings. We categorized eight distinct 'input resources', impacting the potential power dynamic between partners in varying degrees of effectiveness. However, the interconnected system that developed—and its potential for combined effect—was conditional on the manner in which these inputs influenced the partnership's mission. Our analysis reveals that a well-defined shared purpose performs three functions: (i) placing a common objective in the forefront, (ii) aligning the personal interests of each partner, and (iii) enabling collective action. The establishment of a shared mission within partnerships, encompassing all three functions, impacted the creation of a balanced dependency structure, where collaborators understood their interdependencies, thereby stimulating shared decision-making. The importance of early and ongoing discursive exchanges to collaboratively define the partnership's mission cannot be overstated for achieving the highest potential of synergy.
From 2003, when the first walkability scale was introduced, person-environment fit models and research, some of which has been documented in Health Promotion International, have centered on the concept of 'neighborhood walkability' and its relationship to healthy communities. Neighborhood walkability's effect on health-seeking behaviors and overall health is well-established, but recent models fall short in acknowledging the paramount influence of psychosocial and personal factors within the context of aging in place strategies. Subsequently, the evolution of scales designed to measure human factors within ecosystems has omitted key components appropriate for the aging population. Drawing from the relevant literature, this paper proposes a more comprehensive model, labeled Socially Active Neighborhoods (SAN), that will better support the aging-in-place process for senior citizens. By methodically reviewing the literature, we define the scope of SAN and explore its implications for gerontology, health promotion, and psychometric assessments. Neighborhood walkability's current assessment and interpretation differs from SAN, which incorporates psychosocial factors rooted in critical theory, including, but not limited to, social interactions and individual prosperity. Infrastructure in neighborhoods, when designed for safety and accessibility, empowers older adults with physiological and cognitive limitations to stay active, socially connected, and healthy in their later years. Our adaptation of key person-environment models, including the Context Dynamics in Aging (CODA) framework, resulted in the SAN, a framework that values the crucial role of context in healthy aging.
